It is a pretty cool design, but it's definitely unrealistic--which isn't a bad thing, as long as it's intentional. I also don't understand how it could land with that caudal tail. Every ship needs to land sometime or other, even if only for emergencies.
You'll find I'm very much entrenched on the "fiction" side of science fiction. The idea for landing is that it would dock rather than land on the ground, but I do want to redesign it soon and I might at least come up with some retracting section that I can use as a fig leaf.

Yeah, I've rusted pretty bad when it comes to mechanical designs, so it took me a while to get to the point where I was happy with the design. I've generally been doing character stuff in recent years.
